Balance and Falls Prevention

At East Devon Physical Therapy, we help people improve balance, build strength and move with more confidence. For many people, changes in balance do not happen all at once. They build gradually over time. You may feel less steady on your feet, less confident on stairs, more cautious outdoors or worried about falling. Sometimes there has already been a fall. Sometimes it is the fear of one that starts to limit independence. Our role is to assess properly, explain clearly and build a treatment plan that helps you feel safer, stronger and more confident in day-to-day life.

Balance and falls prevention is a key area of focus at East Devon Physical Therapy, and Gary has a particular specialist interest in this area alongside the wider team.

We support people who are noticing changes in balance, recovering after a fall, feeling less confident walking, or wanting to stay active and independent for longer. We also help people whose balance has been affected by deconditioning, pain, joint problems, neurological conditions or reduced strength.

Our approach is supportive, practical and tailored to the individual. We focus on improving confidence as well as physical ability.

We regularly help people who are experiencing:

Not all balance problems are the same, which is why a detailed assessment is important.

At East Devon Physical Therapy, we do not just focus on one symptom.

We look at how you are moving, where confidence is being affected, what physical factors may be contributing, and what needs to improve to help you feel safer and more capable.

Your treatment plan may include:

Our aim is to help you move more confidently, stay active and maintain independence.

Balance issues often become more noticeable when strength reduces, activity levels drop or confidence starts to fall away.

After a wobble, near miss or fall, it is completely understandable for people to become more cautious. But over time, doing less can lead to further weakness, reduced confidence and greater difficulty with everyday movement.

That is why effective treatment is not just about avoiding falls. It is about improving strength, movement, confidence and resilience so that daily life feels safer and more manageable.

We combine expert clinical assessment with practical, evidence-based rehabilitation tailored to the individual.

Gary has a specialist interest in balance and falls prevention, and this sits alongside the wider expertise of the team in rehabilitation, strength building and movement confidence. Some people need help after a recent fall.

Others want to stay ahead of problems before they become more limiting. We adapt treatment to the person in front of us rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our team focuses on honest advice, clear explanation and meaningful long-term improvement.

People often come to us because they want to:

Your first appointment gives us time to understand your concerns, assess your balance and mobility properly and identify the key factors contributing to the problem.

We will explain what we think is going on, what is likely to help and how to start moving things forward.

You will leave with a clear plan, not vague advice or generic exercises.
