Paediatric Care
Paediatric Care at East Devon Physical Therapy is designed to help children move better, feel more confident in their bodies, and stay active—without turning rehab into a battle. Based in our Axminster clinic, we provide specialist paediatric physical therapy for children aged 6–14, combining a friendly, fun approach with proper clinical assessment and a clear plan that parents can trust.
A child-first assessment (that still gets to the root cause)
Every child starts with a comprehensive assessment where we take time to understand what’s been going on and what your child needs most. That includes a background chat with both parent and child (pain history, activity levels, growth stage, previous injuries, school sport, and anything else relevant), followed by age-appropriate physical testing. We look at mobility, strength, coordination, balance, movement patterns and biomechanics—because in kids, pain is often linked to how they’re growing, how they’re loading tissues, and how they move during sport and play.
Fun, engaging sessions with real structure
Children don’t respond well to “do these boring exercises and hope for the best”. Our sessions are designed to be engaging, confidence-building and progressive—while still being clinically meaningful. We adapt rehab to your child’s ability and personality, whether they’re a passionate young athlete or a child who feels less confident with physical activity. Programmes are tailored to goals like returning to football, netball, dance, running, PE, or simply being able to play without pain.
Technology that supports better decisions
Where it’s appropriate, we can use child-friendly, state-of-the-art equipment to guide rehab and make progress measurable. That might include movement analysis, strength and control testing, and other objective measures that help us choose the right starting point and progress safely—especially during growth spurts.
Conditions we commonly help with
Paediatric care can support a wide range of issues, including growth-related pain, overuse injuries, coordination challenges, sport-related injuries, and return-to-activity after time off. The focus is always on safe loading, better movement, and building resilience—not “pushing through”.
Family-centred care
Parents are part of the process. We explain what we’re seeing in plain English, outline what to do at home (without overwhelm), and give clear guidance on sport, rest, and progression—so you feel confident supporting your child between sessions.
