Rehab and Performance

Relieve, Recover, Return

You’ve probably arrived here because something isn’t right.

Maybe you’ve been living with pain for months. Perhaps you’ve tried different treatments, rested, stretched, strengthened, or simply hoped it would settle.

Whatever brought you here, you’re probably looking for more than temporary relief. You’re looking for confidence in your body again.

I’ve spent many years helping people overcome pain, recover from injury and get back to doing what they love. Over that time, my own way of working has evolved.

Today, I choose to work with a smaller number of clients through structured rehabilitation programmes, giving us the time, consistency and focus needed to work towards meaningful, long-term outcomes.

This isn’t about more appointments. It’s about having a clear direction, building confidence, and making steady progress towards the things that matter most to you.

No fluff. No gimmicks. No quick fixes. Just a clear plan, consistent work, and measurable progress.

If that sounds like the type of rehabilitation you’re looking for, I’d love to hear from you.

I’ve never believed rehabilitation should be about chasing pain from one appointment to the next.

Real rehabilitation is about understanding why something happened, rebuilding confidence in your body, and developing the strength and resilience to keep doing the things you love long after treatment has finished.

Pain relief is often where the journey begins. Capability is where it should end.

That’s the philosophy behind everything I do.

It’s why I’ve chosen to work differently.

Pain relief matters, but for most people it’s only the beginning.

The real goal is being able to trust your body again to walk, run, lift, play, travel, work and live without constantly worrying about what might hurt next.

My role isn’t simply to reduce pain. It’s to help you become stronger, more resilient and less reliant on healthcare.

This service isn’t about age or sporting ability.
It’s about commitment.

I work with people from all walks of life, including those recovering from:

Whether your goal is getting back to running, returning to the gym, walking the South West Coast Path, enjoying a round of golf, keeping up with your grandchildren, or simply moving through everyday life with confidence, the principles remain the same:

Understand the problem. Follow the plan. Build lasting resilience.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made is how people work with me. I no longer offer one-off appointments or pay-as-you-go treatment.

When someone chooses to work with me, they’re committing to a rehabilitation journey rather than simply booking an appointment.

Every programme begins with a comprehensive assessment and a minimum commitment of six sessions.

Not because I believe everyone needs six appointments, and certainly not because it’s about income.

It’s because meaningful, lasting change takes time to understand the problem, build confidence, restore movement, develop strength, adapt the plan as you progress and, most importantly, help you become independent rather than reliant on treatment.

That’s the experience I want every client to have.

One of the philosophies I’ve always admired comes from Gilbert Enoka, the long-serving mental skills coach of the New Zealand All Blacks. He helped shape the team’s famous “No Dickheads” philosophy.

But it was never really about the words. It was about building a culture where everyone bought into the same values, trusted the process, respected one another and worked towards a shared goal.

I’ve always believed rehabilitation works in much the same way.

The best outcomes don’t come from finding the “best therapist”. They come from finding the right partnership.

My role is to assess, educate, guide, challenge and adapt your rehabilitation as you progress. Your role is to commit to the process, communicate honestly and put the work in between sessions.

When those two things come together, the results can be remarkable. If they don’t, the journey becomes frustrating for both of us.

That’s why I believe finding the right fit is one of the most important parts of rehabilitation.

If, after speaking with you, I don’t believe my way of working is the right approach, I’ll tell you. Sometimes that means recommending another member of the East Devon Physical Therapy team. Sometimes it means suggesting a different healthcare professional altogether. And sometimes it simply means you don’t need the level of support I offer. I’m completely comfortable with that.

Because my goal has never been to work with the most people.
It’s to do my very best work with the people who are genuinely ready to commit to the journey.

This isn’t about turning people away, it’s about making sure the right people receive the very best experience.

By working with a smaller number of people, I can give every client the time, attention and continuity they deserve. That means having the opportunity to review your progress properly, adapt your rehabilitation when needed, answer questions, and keep the focus on helping you achieve your goals rather than simply moving on to the next appointment.

For me, rehabilitation has never been about seeing as many people as possible. It’s about helping the right people achieve the best possible outcome.

1. Apply
Complete a short application so I can understand what you’re dealing with and whether we’re the right fit for one another.

2. Comprehensive Assessment
We’ll take the time to understand your story, assess how you move and identify what’s really driving the problem.

3. Your Rehabilitation Programme
Together we’ll build a structured rehabilitation programme designed around your goals. Every programme begins with a minimum commitment of six sessions, giving us the opportunity to create meaningful, lasting change.

4. Review & Progress
As you improve, we’ll continually review your progress, adapt your programme and keep building confidence, strength and resilience.

5. Independence
The goal has never been to keep you coming back. The goal is to leave you stronger, more capable and confident enough not to need me anymore.

I’m a Sports Therapist (BSc), a musculoskeletal specialist, a Certified Running Technique Specialist, and a Fellow of the Society of Sports Therapists.

My original degree gave me the foundations for clinical practice, but it was only the beginning. Throughout my career I’ve continued to invest heavily in further education, mentorship and practical experience because I believe learning never stops.

I’ve had the privilege of learning alongside physiotherapists, sports medicine clinicians and other healthcare professionals working within elite sport, including spending time in Kenya learning from practitioners supporting some of the world’s best distance runners.

Since qualifying, I’ve completed extensive postgraduate education covering areas such as running biomechanics, movement assessment, ACL rehabilitation, lower limb rehabilitation, hip rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and evidence-based rehabilitation.
Every course, every mentor and every patient has helped shape the way I work today.

But qualifications don’t change lives. Applying knowledge well does.

Together we’ll work to understand your body, rebuild confidence in movement and create lasting change rather than just temporary relief.

The goal isn’t simply to help you recover from this injury. It’s to leave you stronger, more resilient and better prepared for whatever comes next.

“Sometimes the best advice I can give is that you don’t need my programme.”

One thing that’s important to understand is that not every injury needs this type of programme.

If you’ve tweaked your back while gardening, developed a sore shoulder after decorating, picked up a minor running niggle, or simply need some advice and guidance to get back on track, you probably don’t need to invest in working with me.

For many people, a small number of appointments is exactly what’s needed. That’s why East Devon Physical Therapy has an excellent team of clinicians who help people every day with a huge variety of injuries and conditions.

The way I work is simply different. It’s designed for people who want a longer-term rehabilitation partnership and are ready to commit to a structured process and invest in meaningful, lasting change. If I don’t believe that’s what you need, I’ll always tell you.

Helping you find the right person is just as important to me as helping you find the right programme.
