Running School

Running School at East Devon Physical Therapy is a coaching-led programme for runners and field-sport athletes who want to move better, perform better, and reduce injury risk. Based in Axminster, East Devon, we combine world-leading Running School methods with advanced gait and running analysis technology to support everyone from recreational runners and beginners through to competitive/elite athletes—and also players in multidirectional sports like football and rugby, where speed, change of direction and repeat sprint load are key. We work with people across Devon, Dorset and Somerset, including Seaton, Sidmouth, Honiton, Exeter, Lyme Regis, Bridport and Chard.

Most running injuries and performance plateaus aren’t about motivation—they’re about mechanics, capacity, and how load is being absorbed. Running School starts by understanding your individual biomechanics and identifying the inefficiencies that are costing you speed, comfort or resilience. Then we coach the changes in a way that actually sticks.

Your journey begins with a detailed initial assessment in our Axminster facility. We analyse your running technique and movement strategy, identify the key limiting factors (for example cadence/stride mechanics, pelvic control, stiffness vs collapse, foot/ankle behaviour, trunk control), and build a personalised plan. Depending on your needs, this can include:

Using proven Running School methodologies, we coach technique through an accelerated learning approach—clear cues, drills, progressions and repetition—so you improve efficiency without overthinking every step. This is ideal for:

We offer flexible training options to fit around work, training and match schedules, and we track progress so improvements are objective—not just “it feels a bit better”.

If you’re looking for running gait analysis in East Devon or want expert coaching to run faster, stronger and with fewer setbacks, Running School in Axminster is the place to start.
