Guy Sweetman

Since founding East Devon Physical Therapy in 2010, Guy has helped drive a new era of rehabilitation in the South West — moving beyond outdated approaches and building a clinic focused on modern treatment, advanced rehabilitation technology and high clinical standards.

His ambition has always been to bring elite-level treatment and recovery options to the general public, giving everyday people access to the same principles and technologies used within professional sport.

Guy Sweetman FSST
Founder & Clinical Director
BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy | Certified Running Technique Specialist

A Fellow of the Society of Sports Therapists (FSST), Guy was awarded the profession’s highest level of membership in recognition of his long-standing contribution to Sports Therapy and commitment to clinical excellence.

Guy specialises in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, running injuries, biomechanics, tendon rehabilitation and return-to-performance planning. He works with a wide range of people, from those dealing with chronic pain, arthritis and post-operative recovery through to recreational runners, Hyrox athletes and elite-level competitors.

Alongside treating the general public, Guy has also worked with professional and high-performance athletes, including Premiership rugby players and Team GB competitors. His approach combines hands-on treatment, rehabilitation exercise, movement analysis and objective strength testing to build long-term resilience, improve movement and support long-term recovery.

A key part of Guy’s work has been improving access to advanced rehabilitation technology within everyday clinical practice. Under his leadership, East Devon Physical Therapy introduced:

  • the first public-access AlterG anti-gravity treadmill in South West England
  • the South West’s only NovoTHOR whole-body photobiomodulation (PBM) system
  • HUR specialist rehabilitation equipment and isometric strength testing technology
  • advanced gait analysis and plantar pressure assessment systems
  • Phits 3D-printed orthotic technology as the first UK distributor

These systems help support more accurate assessment, clearer progress tracking and more structured rehabilitation pathways for patients of all levels.

In 2024, Guy travelled to Iten, Kenya — widely regarded as the “Home of Champions” — to attend a specialist conference focused on running-related injuries and elite endurance performance. The experience provided valuable insight into world-class coaching and rehabilitation environments, including time spent at Kipchoge Stadium alongside clinicians working within elite sport.

Guy is also a Certified Running Technique Specialist through The Running School and has extensive experience supporting runners ranging from beginners preparing for their first event through to competitive endurance athletes.

Outside the clinic, Guy continues to compete in Hyrox and running events including Exeter’s Great West Run. Before his rehabilitation career, he trained within elite badminton environments from a young age after being sponsored by former world number 2 Lee Jae Bok and former Korean champion Lee Young Sook — experiences that helped shape the discipline, standards and performance mindset that still influence his work today.

As well as badminton Guy loves a day out at Sandy Park to follow the rugby teams, competing in Hyrox and running events such as Exeters Great West Run!
